Taylor hat-trick spearheads good win for Reserves

A hat-trick by Andrew Taylor was the highlight in Cambridge Reserves’ 5-0 win against Onehunga Mangere United in the Lotto NRFL second division reserves league.

Playing on a rain-soaked Mangere mountain, Cambridge did well to play passing football in difficult conditions and took control in the second half.

Taylor had put the Reds 1-0 ahead halfway through the first spell but his father and coach, Mike Taylor, wasn’t satisfied with the team performance and challenged the players to raise their game.

They responded in style.

Five minutes after the break, Cambridge were awarded a penalty and Taylor smashed it into the roof of the net.

In the 63rd minute, the Reds were given another chance from the penalty spot and Taylor repeated his earlier effort.

With quarter of an hour left, Cambridge mounted another attack and defender Jack Portegys got on the end of a cross to powerfully head downwards and into the net.

Alex Mukaka finished the game off with a fifth goal for the visitors.

Cambridge reserves have now won three of their four competition games.
