Reserves end five-match winning streak

Cambridge reserves have lost their five-match winning streak with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Franklin United.

Playing at Pukekohe’s Bledisloe Park, the Reds fell behind to a long-range free kick struck by Franklin’s Luke Chapman in the first half.

Cambridge mounted a late resurgence in search of an equaliser but failed to create clear-cut chances and ran out of time.

The game marked the first this season in which the Reds reserves had failed to score.

The team has a bye next week when the first team takes on Waiheke Island in the ISPS Chatham Cup.

The D1s beat West Hamilton United 5-1 with Cambridge’s goalscorers being Tony Dikmans (2), Paul Blackstock, Harry Bomans and Ben Ward (average age of goalscorers estimated to be 50+).

The D2 side won 4-2 against Te Aroha Cobras at John Kerkhof Park.
