Cambridge FC have found a novel way to thank long-time coach Mike Woodlock for his 10 years of volunteer service to the football club.
The last race at Thursday’s Cambridge Harness race meeting has been named: The Reds Thank Mike Woodlock Handicap Trot as a salute to his retirement from the first team dugout.
Cambridge Raceway kindly agreed to naming the racing in honour of Woodlock as part of a partnership between the football club and its neighbours whose track is in Taylor St.
All club members and friends of Woodlock are welcome to attend the May 17 race meeting which starts with the first race at 5.10pm, or you can turn up to cheer Mike for the 10th and final race at 9.35pm.
Admission is free and senior players are being encouraged to head to the raceway after Thursday training to farewell Woodlock (and hopefully pick the winner of the race).
We already suspect there’ll be a few sentimental dollars on I’m Just Awesome (9) … and goalkeeper coach Kim Brierley might want to check out Comedy Act (3).
The naming of the race, which is for two-year-old trotters, will see The Reds Thank Mike Woodlock posted on all the country’s newspaper racing pages, form guides and on the walls of every TAB.
