Welcome to this update for our club’s players, parents/carers and supporters.

Referee’s course (introductory level) – Monday June 11
We are very keen to get more referees across all levels of our club and really encourage each team to try and put one person forward to do the introductory course. Coaches/Managers if you have someone who regularly referees your games please encourage them to attend. This course also enables those who want to take the first step towards the referee qualification pathway to gain qualification as a CR (community referee) in one three-hour session. It’s being held at our senior clubrooms from 6.30pm-9.30pm.

Junior Level 1 coaching course – Friday June 15
This is ideal for those seeking a first-level coaching qualification. The course will be held at our senior clubrooms from 6pm-9pm.

Ricki Herbert coaches’ development session – Monday June 18
Former All White and Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert will hold his monthly coaching development session for Cambridge FC coaches at the senior clubrooms from 6pm-7.30pm. All coaches (junior, youth, senior) are encouraged to attend and will find this session informative.

Future Reds programme
Our Future Reds programme is up and running, with 109 of our 460 junior players enrolled, as well as 29 players who are members of our U-12 and U-13 youth squads.

The programme has two components:

Player Development – Monday
Open to all players from 6th-13thgrades. The focus is on individual skills and technical development. These are not intended to replace weekly team coaching sessions but complement them by developing skills over time. We have room for more players.

Skills Centre – Wednesday/Thursday
By invitation, these sessions cater for the top two teams in grades 9-12, and develop individual skills in an environment where players are working in groups with others of similar ability. Again, these sessions don’t replace weekly team coaching sessions. We currently have 66 players attending sessions.

Youth teams – Tuesday/Thursday
We have teams in the WaiBOP Federation Junior League (U-12 boys) and WaiBOP Federation Youth League (U-13 boys). The U-13 squad has players travelling from Taupo, Tauranga and Rotorua to be part of the team, coached by Shaun O’Brien (from Tauranga).

Thanks to those who volunteer their time to our club to enable so many players to enjoy football. This season, we’re recognising some of our volunteers with the help of Onyx Cambridge’s Volunteer of the Week award. Congratulations to the six winners so far – Vanessa Payne, Craig Clark, Jude Bower, Stu Anthony, Louis Roberts and the men’s D1 team. We’ve got 14 more awards to go!
