Loaded WaiBOP Championship

Injuries to five players and the unavailability of others forced our men’s championship side to default their match against Kawerau Sports at Tarawera Park.

Waikato A

The A team won a nine-goal thriller 5-4 against Claudelands Rovers.

Cambridge got off to a flier, thanks to an own goal by Rovers in the 3rd minute.

Rovers levelled in the 9th minute but Cambridge then scored three goals in a 13-minute spell that swung the match their way.

First, Ryan Ashby scored from the penalty spot and then Peter Buesnel added another. Wily forward Jason Szabo grabbed Cambridge’s fourth goal in the 36th minute to give the side a 4-1 advantage.

But Rovers started a comeback with a goal either side of the interval, making it 4-3.

Buesnel found the net for his second goal in the 63rd minute and despite a late Rovers effort, Cambridge’s win was well earned.

Waikato D

The D1s travelled to Melville United’s Gower Park, looking to build on last weekend’s 2-1 win against Cambridge’s D2s.

And they returned with a 2-1 victory, thanks to two goals from Scott Jenkins, one of which was a penalty.

Waikato Women’s A

Our women’s team beat Hamilton Wanderers 6-1  in the Waikato Women’s A League.
