Winning streak comes to an end for Cambridge’s women

Cambridge women’s team’s six-match winning streak has come to an end with a 2-1 home loss to West Hamilton United.

The top-of-the-table match in Waikato Women’s Division A gives the unbeaten West Hamilton side the edge in the race to this year’s title but the result could have gone either way.

With a number of former Cambridge players in their ranks, West Hamilton took a first half lead at John Kerkhof Park before Astrid Howarth levelled through a free kick.

In the second half, Cambridge created a number of chances for Howarth and strike partner Rachel Hill but the winning goal came from West Hamilton with 20 minutes to go.

The Hill Homes Player of the Day was Sophie Rapson-Jones.

Next Sunday, Cambridge travel to Galloway Park, Hamilton, to play Claudelands Rovers (kick off 11am).
