Women lose high-scoring match to league leaders

A hat-trick by leading scorer Rachel Hill wasn’t enough to prevent Cambridge losing their Waikato A League match against competition leaders West Hamilton United.

Playing on a boggy Bremworth Park, the sides battled out a 4-3 thriller which went in favour of the Hamilton outfit.

Hill had three clear chances during the game and took all three, taking her season tally to 22.

The Hill Homes Player of the Day was goalkeeper Jen Hull who performed well in difficult conditions.

The loss effectively ends Cambridge’s hopes of retaining their Waikato A League title but the team plays next Sunday in the semi-final of the Waikato Women’s Cup, taking on Claudelands Rovers at Galloway Park.

The team is aiming for their fourth knockout final in six seasons, having played in three Waikato Cup finals and a Plate final.
