This season has been particularly busy for Cambridge club veteran Des Beeney.
After years of playing, coaching and serving in various administrative roles, he wanted to help the Reds make the most of their return to Northern League football after an absence of six years.
That saw him appointed as team manager for the Cambridge reserves, a team that’s now leading the Lotto NRFL second division reserves competition.
In recent years, Des has also been an active referee and going into this season was our club’s referees’ co-ordinator, a role which saw him encouraging new referees to seek qualification and acting as the club’s first point of contact with referees.
Des has become our 16th Volunteer of the Week award winner and receives a $50 voucher from our partner Onyx Cambridge.

About our Volunteer of the Week award
Cambridge’s favourite eatery will help celebrate our deserving volunteers with a weekly prize of a $50 voucher to spend at Onyx Cambridge in Alpha St.
The award is a terrific way for us to celebrate those who keep our club running all year and to show them what Onyx Cambridge offers its customers.
In all, 20 volunteers will benefit during the season and we seek nominations for worthy recipients.
How to nominate
Please email Onyx Volunteer of the Week nominations and tell us who you think deserves to receive one of our weekly awards, and the reasons why.
Of our 800+ members, parents/guardians and supporters, more than 100 contribute unpaid work to keep our club running.
If you want to join our volunteers, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know how you can help.
* The first 15 recipients of the Volunteer of the Week award were Hamish Durran-Wolff, Jude Bower, Paul Blackstock, Cherie Clark, the D1 men’s team (shared), Mike Woodlock, Cam and Kere McKinnon, Craig Clark, Gary Kelk, Lee McNally, Louis Roberts, Fiona Hill, Stu Anthony, Andrew Taylor and Vanessa Payne.
