What you need to know for the 2019 junior and youth season

Here’s some key information you’ll need as a parent to help your child enjoy the 2019 football season.

NZ Junior Football Framework

All Cambridge FC’s junior programmes run within the guidelines of the NZ Junior Football Framework which sets out a structured method of guiding young footballers from their First Kicks to developing into youth players.

First Kicks

We provide a First Kicks programme for boys and girls aged 4-5 (born 2014 and 2015).

These Saturday morning sessions commence on the first day of the junior season in early May (please watch this site for announcement of dates).

Future Reds programme

Our club has a player development programme in partnership with the Ricki Herbert Football Academy for boys and girls aged 6-14 (structured coaching sessions separate to their Cambridge FC team coaching sessions).

Junior grades

6th-grade boys and girls (born 2013)

6th-grade players are placed into teams. They train at the club in their nominated teams learning the basic skills they need – individually and in a team – in a fun environment with a coach/station leader for the session. On Saturdays, they will play small-sided games.

Training day and time: Wednesdays 4.15pm, starting the first Wednesday of Term 2.
Playing day: Saturday mornings,10am.
Saturday playing format: Gameday will consist of 4 x 8-minute small-sided games (3 v 3).

7th-grade boys (born 2012)

7th-grade players are placed into teams. They train at the club in their nominated teams learning the skills they need – individually and in a team – in a fun environment with a coach/station leader for the session. On Saturdays, they will play in a 5v5 in-house league at the Cambridge football grounds.
Training day and time: Wednesdays 4.15pm, starting the first Wednesday of Term 2.
Playing day: Saturday mornings at 9am games will all be played at home.

Saturday playing format: Gameday will consist of 3 x 15-minute small-sided games (5 v 5).

8th-grade to 14th-grade Boys teams (born 2005 to 2011) and U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14 girls (born 2005 to 2012)

These teams play away or at home each week depending on the draw made by WaiBOP Football and published on this website each week.

Our 8th-grade boys and U8 girls will generally play in a more localised cluster, but 9th grade and older will travel throughout the WaiBOP region (depending on the draw) which extends from Huntly to Te Aroha to Te Awamutu and to Raglan

Junior and Youth Federation Leagues (Sunday competitions)

Cambridge FC fields teams in the WaiBOP Federation Youth & Junior Sunday Leagues, catering for players in the U-12, U-13 and U-14 age groups.

Kit

All children who play on Saturdays will need:

  • Cambridge FC shirt supplied by the club in the team kit, to be returned at the end of the season – these are provided for 6th –14th-grade junior players.
  • Cambridge FC shorts – players will need to purchase their own shorts. Please check this website for details of our preferred apparel supplier.
  • Cambridge FC socks – players will need to purchase their own socks. Please check this website for details of our preferred apparel supplier.
  • Football boots and shin pads – players will need to purchase their own football boots and shin pads.
  • For Firsts Kickers (4th and 5th grade) – parents can order the First Kickers training top from our preferred supplier. Club shorts and socks are optional.

Pre-loved boots (and other gear)

We provide a service at our Junior Shop (open on Saturday mornings during the season) where for $5 parents can swap pairs of boots or buy a used pair.

Match draws

The first round of games for the 2019 season is scheduled for early May (please watch this site for updates and draws).

There will be no games over Queen’s Birthday Weekend.

The weekly draw for the 7th – 13th/14th grades will be published on this website each week. You can access the draws by going to the menu at the top of this website page and click on ‘fixtures’.

Restrictions

John Kerkhof Park is smoke-free and Waipa District Council bylaws forbid dog owners from taking their pets to the park.

Golfers are also not allowed to practise on the park for safety reasons.
