Cambridge overcame a stuttery start to overwhelm Tokoroa 5-2 in their WaiBOP Championship match at John Kerkhof Park.
Meanwhile, the Reds lost both their fixtures in the Lotto NRFL second division.
Here’s how our senior and youth teams fared at the weekend:
Lotto NRFL second division
The Reds lost 3-2 at Metro FC’s Phyllis Street after mounting a second-half fightback after the home side took a 3-0 lead into the interval.
Earlier, the Cambridge reserves lost 4-1 to Metro FC’s second string in the curtain-raiser.
Cambridge’s championship side started poorly at John Kerkhof Park, allowing lowly-placed Tokoroa to hit the post and then score a soft goal.
But striker James Cakebread grabbed two goals in the 20th and 26th minutes, neatly sliding the ball past the Tokoroa goalkeeper in similar fashion with each.
The sides turned round with Cambridge leading 2-1 and the home team put the result beyond doubt with goals from Kurt von Keisenberg (64′) and leading scorer Adam Brady (71′ and 82′).
