Reserves create chances but are out-gunned by on-target Rovers

Cambridge lost their Lotto NRFL second division reserves match 6-2 to Claudelands Rovers in a hectic match that created plenty of goalscoring chances at both ends.

Cambridge hit the post twice in the first half and drew saves from Rovers ‘keeper Aizak Howell but still went into the half-time break at Galloway Park 3-0 down.

Rovers found the net through Daniel Maronga (17′), James Greentree (20′) and Yelson Navarro (40’).

Cambridge came out for the second half in a positive frame of mind, pushing forward at every opportunity and Jack Sickelmore scored his first goal of the season in the 64th minute to reduce the deficit.

Rovers restored their margin in the 72nd minute through substitute Greg Pidoke.

Cambridge combined well to set up striker Andrew Taylor who calmly slotted the ball past ‘keeper Howell to make the score 4-2 with six minutes to go.

However, Rovers killed off the match with a second goal from Greentree (89’) and the goal of the day, a swerving shot from 25 metres by Pidoke in added time.
