WaiBOP to stage three National Women’s League trials at Cambridge

posted in: News, Women

WaiBOP’s squad for this year’s National Women’s League will be selected after a series of trials, including three to be held at Cambridge’s John Kerkhof Park.

Newly-appointed coach Nico Girard and assistant Cliff Harris will be looking to recruit the best women players from the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region to take part in the highest level of domestic competition in late 2019.

The first trial will be staged on July 8 at Papamoa’s Gordon Spratt Reserve (6.30pm-8pm), catering for non-NRFL players from the BoP or Waikato. Then the trials move to John Kerkhof Park for:

  • Wednesday July 10: Cambridge, John Kerkhof Park, 6.30pm-8.00pm. (This is for all non-NRFL players from Waikato or Bay of Plenty.)
  • POSTPONED DUE TO GROUNDS CLOSURE: Monday July 15: Cambridge, John Kerkhof Park, 6.30pm-8.00pm. (This is for NRFL players and invites only.)
  • Wednesday July 24: Cambridge, John Kerkhof Park, 6.30pm-8.00pm. (This is for NRFL players and invites only.)
  • Monday July 29: Cambridge, John Kerkhof Park, 6.30pm-8.00pm. (This is for NRFL players and invites only.)

Cambridge FC have been strong supporters of both men and women’s national league football in recent years, having hosted matches in both competitions for home side WaiBOP.

The club has also been the training base in 2016-17 for the NWL squad, and has been the base for WaiBOP’s U-14 and U-16 Girls National Age Group squads for the past three years.

Players looking to be part of this year’s NWL squad can contact Nico Girard at nico.g@waibop.co.nz.
