Cambridge FC’s head coach Paul Richardson says Auckland rivals Metro FC deserved to win promotion to the Lotto NRFL first division.
Minutes after Metro beat the Reds 2-1 with two late goals to clinch promotion, Richardson said Metro had recruited well and worked hard to improve on their fourth placing in 2018.
“They full deserve to go up,” he said. “Fair play, they’ve worked hard. Congratulations to them.”
Richardson said his side had enjoyed playing attacking football against Metro in the last game of the season but had again lost a close game at home.
He said his team had won 70% of their games on the road this season but seemed to strike problems when playing at home.
That was something to work on for next year when he promised his team would come back stronger and better.
