Six teams to represent Cambridge at prestigious junior tournament in Taupo

Six junior teams will represent Cambridge FC at the annual McCartney Invitational Tournament to be held at Taupo on October 12-13.

The tournament, named after Taupo AFC’s long-time president John McCartney, has been held annually since 2004 when it began with eight teams.

It is now the largest juniors tournament in the country with dozens of teams gathering from the North Island.

The tournament, at Crown Park, includes sections for boys and girls aged 8-15.

Cambridge will be represented by four boys teams (9th, 10th, 12th and 13th grades) and two girls teams (10th and 12th grades).

With six entries, this is believed to be the strongest representation by Cambridge FC in the history of the tournament.

The last success by a Cambridge team was in 2016 when Cambridge Hatrix won the tournament’s 11th-grade boys’ section.
