Two goals from 16-year-old Aston Hurd spearheaded Cambridge’s first victory in this season’s Lotto NRFL second division reserves competition, beating Oratia United 4-1.
The Reds went behind in the 21st minute when Oratia’s Harry Cuthbert scored at John Kerkhof Park.
The goal prompted an immediate response from the home side and Fabian Munoz found the equaliser from the penalty spot just three minutes later.
In end-to-end play on a wet pitch, Cambridge gradually started to get the better of the west Aucklanders and James Young put the Reds 2-1 up in the 36th minute.
Five minutes into the second half, Hurd scored his first goal to stretch the Reds’ lead to 3-1.
The youngster scored his second goal – see main photo – as the game moved into added time.
Cambridge finished the game with 10 men after captain Devon Andrews was sent off late after he earned a second yellow card.
