A familiar face makes a welcome return to John Kerkhof Park

One of the side benefits of Cambridge’s inaugural over-40s tournament at the weekend was that it attracted a few familiar faces back to John Kerkhof Park.

Among them was former Cambridge first-team coach Brett Clark who was turning out for Auckland’s Bay Olympic – see main photo – while brother Craig Clark was anchoring the defence for Cambridge’s tournament team.

“It’s good to be back,” Brett acknowledged, as he prepared to don green and black kit instead of the familiar red and white stripes he wore as a player at Cambridge.

Clark left Cambridge nearly three years ago to travel to Europe with wife Paula, working in the United Kingdom. The Clarks returned to New Zealand as the country was locking down to combat COVID-19 and they are now based in Auckland.

The Clark family’s club connections run deep – Brett’s son Josh is a former first-team player, currently coaching in the United States, while daughter Michaela used to play for Cambridge’s women’s team.
