Cambridge will again host some of the country’s best women’s players as the ISPS Handa Women’s Premiership returns to John Kerkhof Park.

New Zealand Football has confirmed the fixture list for this year’s national women’s league in which WaiBOP will play six matches in a one-round competition.

Cambridge FC have provided the training base and home ground venue for WaiBOP’s NWL squad in 2016, 2017, 2019 and now 2020.

Fixtures confirmed for John Kerkhof Park are:

  • 12pm, Sunday November 15: WaiBOP v Canterbury United Pride (current champions, see main photo)
  • 2pm, Sunday November 29: WaiBOP v Northern Lights

A third fixture (WaiBOP v Auckland) is currently scheduled for Sunday December 13 but the venue is to be confirmed.

The 2020 ISPS Handa Women’s Premiership will be contested by Northern Lights, Auckland Football, WaiBOP, Central Football, Capital Football, Canterbury United Pride and Southern United.

This ISPS Handa Women’s Premiership is expected to feature the highest number of players capped by the Football Ferns and age group teams in recent years, as attention shifts to selection for next year’s Olympic Games and preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The opening round of the ISPS Handa Women’s Premiership will be played the weekend of October 31/November 1.

The 2020 ISPS Handa Women’s Premiership will take a single round-robin format.

First and second will contest the Grand Final on the weekend of December 19/20.

The format change for this season was made following consultation and feedback from stakeholders including players, federations and clubs, and averts any possible clashes with players’ further commitments in the New Year.
