A team of veteran footballers have won Cambridge’s women’s sevens for the second year after playing a testing six matches in a day.

Playing under the name Broken Down … Again, the group of players hail from Cambridge, Hamilton and beyond and usually play their winter for different clubs.

The friends reunited especially for The Soccer Shop Cambridge Sevens and with two wins, are suggesting they’ll go for a hat-trick in 2017 under the name Really, Really Broken Down.

The side started the tournament with a surprise loss to newcomers Gisborne Thistle but then powered their way to victory with a 2-1 semi-final win against Northern United, and then beating Melville United in the final, also by a single goal margin.

Ten teams contested the sixth annual tournament in hot, sunny conditions.

A young Cambridge team came third in group play, with a win, a draw and two losses.
