Cambridge have finished their 2017 campaign at the national U-17 youth tournament in Auckland after losing in the quarter-finals of the Bowl Competition.
The Adrian Clark-coached Cambridge side were beaten in the knockout phase 1-0 by Tauranga City United but the squad can return home satisfied with their performance at the tournament which yielded three victories.
In group play, the team had impressive wins against Waitakere United (1-0), North Shore United (3-0) and Halswell United (3-1).
However, the side narrowly lost to Hamilton Wanderers (0-1) and to the highly-rated Onehunga Sports (0-1), due to a late penalty.
Cambridge finished third in the group behind Onehunga and Wanderers.
This is the second year Cambridge have competed in the prestigious tournament, staged by the Youth Development Football Trust in Auckland.
Last year, at the first attempt, Cambridge qualified for the quarter-finals of the main competition.
