Cambridge’s Avi Kumar has won a youth contract with WaiBOP’s successful Futsal squad.
Kumar, who turned 17 this month, was a key member of the Cambridge squad that won this year’s WaiBOP Championship title.
He’s now become one of seven youngsters given youth contracts by the WaiBOP Futsal team who will compete in this summer’s National Futsal League.
WaiBOP reached the final of last summer’s competition.
Of the 18 players awarded senior contracts, two have Cambridge connections.
Former Cambridge youth and first team player Logan Wisnewski is named in the Futsal squad while goalkeeper Patrick Steele is a graduate of Just4Keepers, the goalkeeping academy run by Cambridge goalkeeper coach Kim Brierley.
Patrick previously played for Cambridge’s U-15 and U-17 teams.
The Fustal contract is Kumar’s third highlight of 2017. As well as being part of the title-winning Championship team, he was also a member of the Hamilton Boys’ High team that won the National High School Tournament.
Also in that team was Cambridge’s Levi Clark – also part of the Championship squad – and six more players who learned their football as juniors at Cambridge.
