Pre-season training underway for Northern League

Pre-season training for Cambridge FC’s Northern League squads is underway.

The senior coaching group, headed by Mike Woodlock, has set out a comprehensive programme to help the newly-promoted club get off to a flying start when the Northern League gets underway in late March.

Pre-season preparation formally started on Thursday January 18 at John Kerkhof Park with two weekly sessions (Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Early focus will be on fitness and ball skills, building to work on formation and tactics before the start of a series of pre-season friendlies starting in mid-February.

The opening game of the season for Cambridge is likely to be on Saturday March 24 when the WaiBOP Premiership champions for 2017 will make their return to the Northern League in the second division.

The club will also field a side in the Northern League Reserves League.

Players who wish to be considered for inclusion in Cambridge’s Northern League squad are invited to attend pre-season training (6.30pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays) or to email Chrissy Goodin or phone her on 021 307294 (mob).

About Cambridge’s 2018 Northern League campaign

Senior coaching group will consist of Mike Woodlock (head coach), Ray Pooley (assistant coach), Shane Ridgway (assistant coach), Kim Brierley (goalkeeper coach), Mike Taylor (reserves coach), Chrissy Goodin (team manager), Des Beeney (reserves manager).

The club returns to the Northern League having won the WaiBOP Premiership in 2015 and 2017, and being named Waipa Sports Team of the Year for 2017.
