After a successful double-header against Otumoetai last Saturday, Cambridge’s Northern League squads go into action again this weekend in pre-season warm-ups against Waipa rivals Te Awamutu.
Cambridge’s Northern League Reserves play Te Awamutu in the early game, kicking off at 12.30pm at John Kerkhof Park.
The first team then take on Te Awamutu’s WaiBOP Premiership squad in the main match at 2.45pm.
The games provide Reds supporters with another chance to see new faces in our squads and help make them welcome at our club.
Last weekend, newcomers Wayne Teague (2) and Dylan Blair both found the net in their debuts for Cambridge, while Jamie Woodlock bagged a brace after returning to the club he played for as a junior.
English arrival Teague and Woodlock shared the goals in Cambridge’s 4-2 win against Otumoetai’s WaiBOP Premiership outfit while Blair and striker Adam Brady got on the scoresheet in the Reserves’ 2-2 draw against the Bay club’s second string.
These pre-season friendlies are important steps in the build-up to Cambridge’s return to the Northern League after a six-year absence. The Reds won promotion to this year’s NRFL Second Division after taking the 2017 Loaded WaiBOP Premiership title and winning a two-legged promotion play-off against Auckland’s Beachlands-Maraetai.
The Northern League season starts on Saturday March 24. The fixture list is yet to be announced.
- Our clubrooms will be open to players and supporters from both clubs after the matches. The clubrooms had previously been reserved for a private function but it is no longer going ahead.
