Reserves stay top of league with 1-0 win at home

posted in: Men, News, Northern League

A 58th-minute goal from Johnny Sanchez was enough to get Cambridge reserves home 1-0 against a decent Bucklands Beach side in the Lotto Northern League second division reserves league.

The win keeps Cambridge top of the league, and takes them clear of nearest rivals Takapuna who lost to Metro FC.

The match, on a greasy surface at John Kerkhof Park, was light on thrills as both sides fought a game in the middle third.

Bucklands Beach were well organised and showed why they have one of the competition’s best defensive records.

But pressure finally paid off when Sanchez struck from the edge of the area and saw his shot creep beneath the diving Bucklands Beach goalkeeper.
