Cambridge’s U-12 girls-only team have had a successful first outing together, playing at a Junior World Cup tournament at Otumoetai’s Fergusson Park.
Despite having only had three pre-season training sessions, the girls quickly got into gear and won their first game playing as the Cambridge Wildcats, achieving a convincing 4-0 win with excellent defending, passing and finishing.
In difficult weather conditions, the Wildcats followed up with a 1-1 draw, two losses and then ended their tournament with an emphatic 6-0 victory.
Coach Scott Bult was pleased with the team’s showing.
“There was some fantastic talent on show from the Cambridge squad and we look forward to the season getting underway to further develop as a team,” he said.
Coach Bult thanked Andrew Jordan for refereeing and keeping score, and team manager Emma Young for the communications and management of the team.
He also thanked the parents “for the superb support, encouragement and for dealing with the atrocious conditions on the day.”
