Youngsters get the backing of Reds players

Members of Cambridge’s first team were among the many supporters of our junior players at Saturday’s season opening day.

Before they took the team bus to Auckland for their Northern League game against Franklin United, the Reds took time to take in some of the action at our junior pitches.

Bradley Rea (pictured), who started his own football career as a Cambridge junior, checked the progress of some junior players he now coaches as part of his work with the Ricki Herbert Football Academy and our club’s Future Reds programme.

He and other senior players were pleased to see so many boys and girls enjoying their first games of the 2018 season.

Next week, it’ll be the turn of junior players to support the Reds when they host Waiheke Island in the first round of the ISPS Chatham Cup, New Zealand’s oldest football competition.

Members of the 9th grade Victory will be mascots for the match which kicks off at 2.30pm on Saturday May 12 at John Kerkhof Park.
