Reds reserves hit magic 40 goals to stay top of league

Cambridge reserves struck their 40th goal of the season to stay clear at the top of the Lotto NRFL second division reserves league with a 4-0 win against Te Atatu.

The Reds hosted Te Atatu at the club’s neighbours, the Cambridge Harriers and Athletics Club, after a week of rain left the scheduled pitch sodden.

And Cambridge took to the unfamiliar pitch with a vengeance, scoring twice in each half to take the points.

Leading goalscorer Andrew Taylor scored twice before the break – the first was a screamer – giving him 13 goals for the season so far – a tally that exceeds all the goals he’s scored since he joined the club nine years ago.

In the second spell, Mason Woodall extended Cambridge’s lead to 3-0 and then Jack O’Leary benefitted from a Te Atatu defensive mix-up to record the team’s fourth goal.

Man of the Match was Cambridge skipper Dehein Hindley.

The win against the 8th-placed Aucklanders gives Cambridge 40 goals from 10 outings.
