D1 team share our latest Volunteer of the Week award

You can always count on Cambridge FC’s D1 team to get behind the club when extra help is needed.

The team has built a reputation for rounding up its members as club volunteers no matter what the event or obstacles faced.

And the team was true to form when the club needed volunteers to provide car park stewards at the Cambridge Raceway’s Harness Jewels event on Queen’s Birthday Weekend.

Going into the weekend, our roster of volunteers was looking fairly thin so the D1s decided the call for help was strong enough that they should delay the start of their Saturday fixture against the D2s, enabling them to provide volunteers for the car parking.

Team manager Jim Thomassen said the Harness Jewels event provided the club with an excellent chance to raise funds – the club received a significant donation from the raceway for helping – and his team would always put the club first.

As a result, the D1s are joint winners of the seventh Onyx Cambridge-sponsored Volunteer of the Week award.

They receive a $50 voucher from our partner Onyx Cambridge, and the team will decide who will use it.

Dennis Hommel even turned up for another round of volunteering the following day when he returned to the junior grounds with club facilities manager Craig Clark to cut overhanging branches from trees.

The club thanks the D1s and other volunteers who assisted with the car parking project last weekend.

About our Volunteer of the Week award

Cambridge’s favourite eatery will help celebrate our deserving volunteers with a weekly prize of a $50 voucher to spend at Onyx Cambridge in Alpha St.

The award is a terrific way for us to celebrate those who keep our club running all year and to show them what Onyx Cambridge offers its customers.

In all, 20 volunteers will benefit during the season and we’re now seeking nominations for worthy recipients.

How to nominate

Please email media@cambridgefootball.co.nz and tell us who you think deserves to receive one of our weekly awards, and the reasons why.

Of our 800+ members, parents/guardians and supporters, more than 100 contribute unpaid work to keep our club running.

If you want to join our volunteers, please email media@cambridgefootball.co.nz and let us know how you can help.

* The first six recipients of the Volunteer of the Week award were Jude Bower, Mike Woodlock, Craig Clark, Louis Roberts, Stu Anthony and Vanessa Payne.
