New signing scores winner for Reds against his old club

New Cambridge signing Devon Andrews scored the first goal of the season for the Reds – and it turned out to be the winner against his old club.

Andrews, 23, joined Cambridge in pre-season and made his debut for the Reds reserves against Franklin United in the Lotto NRFL second division reserves competition.

Playing the match at Franklin’s Drury United ground, the match was a tight affair until Andrews broke the deadlock five minutes before the interval.

The sides battled out a scoreless second half to give Cambridge a winning start to their season, and a clean sheet away from home.

Coach Mike Taylor will be keen for the winning form to continue next Saturday when the reserves meet Oratia United’s reserves in the early kick off at John Kerkhof Park (12.30pm).

Oratia join Cambridge in the second divison after being relegated from the first tier last season.
