Poor start proves costly for Reds reserves in Lotto NRFL early game

posted in: Men, News, Northern League

Lapses in the opening and closing stages of the game saw Cambridge lose their Lotto NRFL second division reserves match 6-0 to Oratia United.

Playing in the early game at John Kerkhof Park, Oratia raced to a 3-0 lead in the opening half-hour thanks to a hat-trick by Harry Cuthbert.

The scoreline might have been worse but Oratia missed a penalty, meaning the sides went into the break with the Reds trailing by three goals.

The second half started more evenly and Cambridge created a number of half-chances and won a series of corners.

But the strong Oratia unit, easy winners in their previous game as well, found a fourth goal on the hour through Cullen Morrow before Charlie Schiers grabbed two more in the last five minutes of the match.

The young Cambridge side will regroup in time for next Saturday’s match against Claudelands Rovers, in the early game at John Kerkhof Park (kick off 12.30pm).
