More than 1,000 players and spectators pack grounds for start of junior season

It’s underway! The junior winter football season has kicked off in style at Cambridge FC with more than a thousand players and spectators filling our junior grounds for the May 4 opening day.

At 9am, the first games got underway while 27 boys and girls aged 4-5 started their football journey as part of our First Kicks programme.

As the day progressed, older children played their first round fixtures with visiting teams from around the Waikato.

Our shop did great business with hot chips while the coffee cart had a steady stream of customers.

And the kids?

They had a ball. Our grounds were full of joyous celebration as tackles were made, passes completed and goals scored.

Yes, there was the odd bruised shin and a tear or two but the day will provide lasting memories for our youngest players and their families.
