Away draw for Cambridge in next round of Waikato Women’s Cup

Cambridge will travel to Tokoroa for the next step in their efforts to reach the final of the Waikato Women’s Cup for the second year in a row.

After beating Waihi 6-2 away in the first round of the knockout, Cambridge drew a trip to Tokoroa’s Strathmore Park on July 7 for the second round tie.

The format of this year’s cup requires a team to win five games to lift the silver.

Round 1- Cup – 18 teams, 9 games
Round 2 Cup – July 7, 2019:  9 winners from Round 1, 4 games and 1 bye
Round 3 Cup – July 28, 2019 – 5 winners from Round 2, 1 game, 3 byes
Semi Final – August 11, 2019 – 4 teams
Final – August 25, 2019- 2 teams

Cambridge reached the final of last year’s Waikato Cup and have a good recent record in the competition.

The club’s women’s first team won the 2014 Waikato Cup. They were beaten finalists in 2013, 2015 and 2018.

The club were runners-up in the 2016 Waikato Plate.

Tokoroa beat Cambridge 4-1 earlier this season when the teams met in Waikato Division 1.
