Cambridge’s D1 side bounced back after trailing 3-1 to Claudelands Rovers to win 8-3 with a comprehensive second-half display.

Playing in sunny conditions at the Cambridge Athletics ground, the home side struggled to find their form in the first half and despite a stunning goal from Fabian Burgos, they went into the break 2-1 behind.

Rovers increased their lead soon after the interval but Cambridge found their rhythm after that.

After 65 minutes, Dave O’Donnell fired home a cracking shot from 20 metres to reduce the deficit to 3-2.

Three minutes later, O’Donnell struck again, with a well-taken volley from the edge of the box.

With the score tied at 3-3, Cambridge pushed forward and leading scorer Miguel Peterle netted for the eighth time this season.

A minute later, Mariano Castellon gave Cambridge a 5-3 lead.

An own goal, under pressure from substitute Craig Clark, extended Cambridge’s lead to 6-3 with ten minutes to go.

But there was still time for Cambridge to add two more goals, the first from Adrian Clark and another from Castellon who struck a finely angled shot with the last kick of the match.

The result gave Cambridge their biggest win of the season.
