Cambridge FC are seeking young players keen to participate in regional youth leagues for teams aged 12-14 in 2020.
The club invites expressions of interest from parents and caregivers with boys and girls eligible for the following teams:
- Boys’ 12th-grade J-League (for players born in 2008)
- Boys’ 14th-grade Y-League (for players born in 2006)
The club has tried to bring together squads for the following competitions but has withdrawn its entries due to insufficient player numbers:
- Boys’ 13th-grade Y-League (for players born in 2007)
- Girls’ 14th-grade Y-League (for players born in 2006)
Our club’s youth teams will have qualified coaches provided by our partner, the Ricki Herbert Football Academy, ensuring players receive a high standard of support to help them develop as footballers.
The coaches will be led by former All Whites and Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert, who is Cambridge FC’s Technical Director, and his son Kale Herbert who is head coach for Hamilton Wanderers’ national league side.
Cambridge FC is seeking to enter these youth competitions which bring together the best players in their age groups throughout the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.
The leagues are run by WaiBOP Football and are scheduled for Sundays.
The process and timetable for participation is:
Step one: register your interest (see below)
Step two: our club will hold coach assessment sessions to assist in team selection. These will be held from 5.15pm-6.15pm on the following dates: Monday February 17, Monday February 24, Monday March 2 and Monday March 9. Cost of attendance: $30 covers all four sessions.
Step three: confirmation of team entries/formation of leagues
Step four: registration of players (March)
The season is expected to start in April.
In addition to subscriptions for club membership, participants will be asked to pay a term fee to cover the cost of qualified coaches from the RHFA.
Last season, this fee worked out at $10 per session.
The 2020 costs (subs and fees) will be advised early in 2020.
Cambridge FC’s participation in the J-League and Y-League competitions is subject to acceptance by WaiBOP Football.
Registration of an expression of interest does not guarantee selection to a team.
Ricki Herbert is Technical Director at Cambridge FC and oversees our coaching programme for junior, youth and senior football. If you want to know more about becoming a coach at our club, please email Cambridge FC’s Technical Director Ricki Herbert here.
- Ricki Herbert’s work with our coaches is made possible by the support of the Grassroots Trust.
