Cambridge FC’s first competitive game of the 2020 season has finally taken place, with the club’s U-14 youth team travelling to Papamoa.
The Kale Herbert-coached U-14s (pictured) lost 2-0 to Papamoa in the WaiBOP Federation Y-League.
The sides were scoreless after a tight first half but the Bay side finished the game better with two second half goals.
The U-14’s competition started a week earlier than other senior and youth competitions because all the fixtures were played at Bay of Plenty grounds where councils had opened them for inter-club competition.
Results from the opening round saw Rotorua United crush Melville U-16 girls 12-1. Cambridge play Melville next Sunday.
Tauranga City and Melville U-14 boys drew 2-2 while Otumoetai beat Northern United 7.1
