All Whites skipper – and former Cambridge player – Chris Wood has been linked to Italian Serie A club Lazio who are keen to recruit a proven striker for their next European Champion’s League campaign.
Wood scored 14 Premier League goals for Burnley last season and has reached double figures in each of his last three seasons at that level.
Italian media reports say Rome club Lazio, who finished fourth in Serie A, are contemplating making an offer for Wood or Josh King, a forward with Bournemouth who were relegated from the Premier League this year.
Wood is under contract at Burnley till the 2022-23 season.
Lazio’s top goalscorer last season was Ciro Immobile who matched the Serie A scoring record with 36 goals.
Media reports say Lazio want to find a striking partner for Immobile after the release of Ecuador international Felipe Calcedo.
Wood joined Burnley from Championship club Leeds United in 2017 for £15 million (NZ$26 million).
Since leaving New Zealand as a 17-year-old, Wood has also played for West Bromwich Albion, Barnsley, Brighton, Birmingham City, Bristol City, Millwall and Leicester City.
He was a junior at Cambridge and made his debut for the club’s Northern League team as a 14-year-old.
