Cambridge go on six-goal rampage in WaiBOP Championship win

posted in: Men, News

Cambridge cruised to a 6-0 victory against Waikato Unicol to extend their unbeaten run to five games in the WaiBOP Championship.

After a scoreless first half, Cambridge hit their straps in the second spell finding the net through six different goalscorers.

Dominic Vitesse opened the scoring in the 56th minute with a shot from outside the area and four minutes later, leading scorer Aaron Huesser doubled the Cambridge lead.

Ryan Ashby extended the gap to 3-0 with a long-range effort in the 76th minute and that’s how the scored appeared to be remaining as the clock wound down.

But Cambridge’s bench injected late impetus and substitutes Miguel Peterle (89′) and teenager Aston Hurd (90′) scored before striker Adam Brady finished off the scoring in added time.

Player of the Day was Dominic Vitesse.

The win increases Cambridge’s lead to seven points in the B section of the Championship, which split into groups of six after a full 11-match round robin.

Cambridge play Tauranga City at John Kerkhof Park next Saturday (September 19), kick off 2.45pm.
