Cambridge’s women’s team have concluded their winter season with a well-matched friendly against a touring team from Northland.
Cambridge lost the game 2-0, conceding goals just before half-time and full-time, but played well against a side that competes at a higher level in the Northern Football Federation league and which had beaten Claudelands Rovers’ Northern League team the day before.
Cambridge coach Jamie McKean said the match had provided a good test for his players who had improved all year to finish runners-up in the Waikato Women’s second division.
“For us to hold a team as good as Northland for most of the game means we played really well,” he said.
Cambridge included several guest players and did not hold back against the visitors, going close to scoring and getting their share of possession.
The Hill Homes Player of the Day was Georgia Methven, playing her first season of senior football.
