After several days of heavy rain, the downpours stopped, the clouds cleared … and this year’s Cambridge Summer League got underway in sunny conditions.

More than 350 men, women and young adults took to the 10 specially-marked pitches at John Kerkhof Park for opening night (November 11, 2020) of this summer’s version of the weekly 5-a-side competition that’s been running for more than 30 years.

This year’s 40 teams were notable for:

  • The number of new entries – about a quarter of the teams are new to the competition.
  • The inclusion of more women and more youth-aged players.
  • Half the teams consider themselves ‘social’ and playing purely for fun.

The club broke out the BBQ to cater for peckish players – and as the results flowed in to organisers, players started to think of next Wednesday’s draw (which will be available at this website early next week).
