Cambridge’s up and coming youngsters continue to find the net for the U-23s in the Lotto NRFL second division reserves competition.
Though the Reds lost for the first time this season – going down 4-2 at Hibiscus Coast – two more developing players registered their first goals at NRFL level.
Morgan Montrose (18) and Ben Dixon, who turned 19 last week, scored in an end-to-end affair at Hibiscus Coast’s Stanmore Bay Park.
Coast took the lead after 4′ through Luke Le Brun before Montrose levelled in the 27th minute, after being fed the ball by Fabian Munoz.
The sides looked even going into half-time at 1-1.
However, Coast took a two-goal lead and the Reds were under the pump. Substitute Paul Langford and Corben Hickey both scored in a three-minute spell, turning the game.
Dixon scored for the visitors in the 72nd minute and at 3-2, Cambridge looked capable of a revival.
A late goal by Le Brun for Hibiscus Coast put paid to that but Cambridge can be pleased with the performance of a young line-up that’s showing promise.
The U-23s’ next game is against local rivals Claudelands Rovers next Saturday (April 10) when the sides kick off at 12.30pm.
