Reds go north on Easter Monday in search of season’s first win

The Reds will make their second-longest trek of the season on Easter Monday when they head to Hibiscus Coast in search of their first win of the Lotto NRFL season.

Only the second division match at Northland FC’s Whangarei ground on August 7 will provide a longer trip than the 366km roundtrip to Hibiscus Coast’s Stanmore Bay Park.

Ultimately, the time on the road will be forgotten if Cambridge can register their first win of the season, especially against the early league co-leaders.

After a close-fought 1-0 loss at Oratia United on opening day, the Reds lost 5-2 to Greenhithe Catimba on Good Friday, though that result belied a lively second-half performance when the Reds were down to 10 men.

If the Cambridge side can kick on from there, anything’s possible.

Head coach Paul Richardson has opted for a youthful line-up, naming teenage striker Aston Hurd in his starting line-up with youngsters Tom O’Leary and Tevin Smith on the bench.

The U-23 reserves kick off at 12.30pm and the first teams start at 3pm.
