Cambridge women’s team continue to lead Waikato Women’s Division Two after their seventh league win in a row.

The team’s latest game saw them beat Mangakino United 9-0 after leading 6-0 at half-time.

Cambridge could not have started better, racing to a 2-0 win in as many minutes.

Olivia Milne set up Rachel Hill in the opening minute, enabling HIll to put the ball into the top corner.

Then, Milne doubled the score almost from the kick-off.

After 15 minutes, midfielder Kym Thomasen passed across the face of the United goal, enabling Mariela Robledo to put the ball away.

Four minutes later, Thomasen provided the assist for Milne to score her second goal.

Maria Cameron provided Cambridge’s fifth goal after 22 minutes and Selina Oliver made it 6-0 on the half-hour.

In the second half, the play was less frantic and Mangokino defended for longer periods, restricting the winning margin.

Auryn Maroney scored twice (52′, 77′), the first a fine solo effort after a break down the left wing and the second a well-struck shot with the outside of the boot.

In the 78th minute, Cambridge completed the scoring when captain Steph Upton fed a ball through to Cameron who scored her second of the day.

Coach Jamie McKean said the game was enjoyable for both sides for the spirit in which it was played – exemplified by the two sides sharing their end-of-game celebration (see main photo).

The joint Players of the Day were Cameron and Oliver.

Cambridge’s next game is at Claudelands Rovers’ Galloway Park on Sunday June 20 (11am).
