Former Reds Donovan Latham and Callum MacLeod helped Ngaruawahia United to a 4-1 upset win against WaiBOP Championship leaders Cambridge.
The pair scored second-half goals to lead a Ngaruawahia revival that saw them take the points at Centennial Park.
United took the lead after five minutes through Jefferson Latham but Cambridge’s Tom Woutersen grabbed an equaliser after 17 minutes.
After the break, MacLeod put Ngaruawahia ahead on the hour and Latham scored another in the 76th minute to put Ngaruawahia in front by 3-1.
Jordan Brown found a fourth goal for the home side with only three minutes to go to ensure Ngaruawahia, ninth-placed before the game, took the points against the competition leaders.
For Cambridge, it was their second loss in a row.
Coach Steve Thomas said he was disappointed with the result but happy at the effort and attitude of his players.
Player of the Day was Sam Garmonsway.
Cambridge’s next game is against Te Puke United at John Kerkhof Park next Saturday (July 24), with a 2.45pm kick-off.
