Late goal denies U-23s win against Papatoetoe

posted in: Men, News, Northern League

Visitors Papatoetoe snatched a 2-2 draw against Cambridge with a goal in the dying minutes of their Lotto NRFL second division reserves fixture at John Kerkhof Park.

The result was harsh on the Cambridge side who had shown plenty of enterprise, especially in the first half when they took a 2-1 lead into the break.

Goals from William Jackson (29′) and James Wilkinson (32′) showed the team was capable of good build-up and could finish their chances.

However as the game meandered towards a Cambridge win, a late free kick gave Papatoetoe the chance to float a ball into the box which was then scrambled home for the equaliser.

The U-23s’ next fixture is at home to Fencibles United on Saturday July 31 (12.30pm).
