Teenager breaks deadlock for U-23s win against Northland

Sixteen-year-old Matthew Jordan scored his first senior club goal to help Cambridge U-23s to a 1-0 win in the Lotto NRFL second division U-23s competition.

Playing the curtain-raiser game at Whangarei’s Trigg Arena, Cambridge fielded a young side against a Northland side that was fourth on the table.

After a scoreless first half, Cambridge took the three points when Jordan broke the deadlock with six minutes left.

The Colin Coster-coached side kept their nerve – and a valuable clean sheet – to head home with their third win of the season.

The U-23s’ next fixture is away to Onehunga Mangere United on Saturday August 14 (12.30pm).
