Cambridge Football Club is one of the Waikato's largest and most respected community football clubs, serving hundreds of players, families, coaches, volunteers, and supporters every season.

As the club continues to grow, we are seeking an energetic and capable General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of the club while driving new opportunities for growth, partnerships, sponsorship, and member engagement.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working across operations, administration, marketing, stakeholder management, and commercial development within a community-focused sporting environment.

Importantly, the club has already undertaken significant work to establish strong governance, policies, operational procedures, and strategic direction. The successful candidate will inherit a solid platform and be empowered to build upon it, helping take the club to its next stage of growth and success.

Reporting to the Club President and working closely with the Club Committee, coaches, volunteers, members, sponsors, and football stakeholders, the General Manager will play a key leadership role in delivering an outstanding football experience for our community.


Key Responsibilities

Club Leadership & Management

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management of club operations.
  • Implement and oversee established policies, procedures, and operational plans.
  • Support the Committee in achieving the club's strategic objectives.
  • Ensure football programmes, facilities, resources, and volunteers are aligned to club goals.
  • Drive a culture of professionalism, accountability, inclusiveness, and community engagement.

Sponsorship & Revenue Growth

  • Lead sponsorship acquisition and retention activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Identify and implement new revenue opportunities to strengthen the club's financial sustainability.
  • Assist with grant applications and funding opportunities.
  • Develop sponsorship packages and partnership offerings that create value for both sponsors and the club.
  • Work with club leadership to achieve agreed financial and growth targets.

Volunteer & Community Engagement

  • Support, coordinate, and empower the club's volunteer workforce.
  • Foster a positive and rewarding volunteer culture.
  • Strengthen relationships with members, parents, supporters, schools, and the wider community.
  • Act as a key point of contact for club stakeholders.
  • Assist with community programmes and development initiatives.

Football Administration & Operations

  • Oversee player registrations, team entries, and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate seasonal planning, competition administration, and scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with NZ Football and federation regulations.
  • Maintain efficient systems, records, databases, and reporting processes.
  • Support coaches, team managers, and football leadership with operational delivery.

Match Day & Event Management

  • Oversee match-day operations and logistics.
  • Coordinate equipment, facilities, referee requirements, and field allocations.
  • Support the planning and delivery of tournaments, club events, fundraising activities, and community initiatives.
  • Ensure club facilities and resources are effectively managed.

Marketing & Club Promotion

  • Work with volunteers and stakeholders to enhance the club's profile within the community.
  • Support social media, website content, newsletters, and member communications.
  • Promote club achievements, programmes, events, and sponsorship partners.
  • Help grow participation across all age groups and football programmes.

About You

The successful candidate will bring a combination of operational capability, commercial awareness, and community leadership.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in sports management, community organisations, events, or business operations.
  • Sponsorship, partnership, sales, or revenue-generation experience.
  • Experience working with volunteers and committees.
  • Knowledge of football administration systems and structures.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, CRM systems, and social media platforms.

Position Details

Position: General Manager
Location: Cambridge Football Club, Cambridge, New Zealand
Hours: Approximately 30 hours per week (flexible, including some evenings and weekends)
Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract with potential for extension
Remuneration: Negotiable based on experience
Reports To: Club President
